Leisure Collection Development Policy

Purpose

The University Library is committed to developing a well-rounded leisure reading collection that serves Nevada State students, faculty, and staff to support the Library’s initiative in promoting reading for lifelong learning and enlightenment on current topics. While the Library prioritizes resources that support the academic curriculum, it also recognizes the value of leisure materials in fostering a culture of reading and enhancing the student experience. Leisure reading materials are available in multiple formats, including print collections housed within the University Library, as well as e-book and audiobook options accessible through the Library’s OverDrive platform.

Selection

In curating the Library’s leisure collection, the library priorities acquiring materials based on their high interest and relevance to the Nevada State community. The collection is intentionally selective and includes a curated range of current fiction and nonfiction titles across a variety of genres. A limited number of titles may be selected from bestseller lists and other recognized sources to reflect popular reading trends and diverse interests.

The University Library welcomes recommendations from the Nevada State community and encourages submitted requests through the Request a Resource Form.

When evaluating materials to be added to the collection, several factors are considered:

  • Format: Materials are typically selected in print, e-book, or audiobook formats to ensure accessibility and meet user preferences.
  • Relevance and Currency: Selection focuses on recently published or currently popular titles that reflect interests and topics.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: The collection aims to include works by authors from a wide range of backgrounds, ensuring representation of diverse voices and perspectives that represent with the Nevada State community.
